Morristown Green: The existential question
So right out of the gate, one of the local residents recruited to blog at our new hyperlocal Web site Morristown Green asks a pointed question: What is the purpose of this site?
His name is Ron Brandt, and he continues:
So far I see no purpose to this blog. If it is going to be meaningful, there should be a clear objective and some rules about commercialism and simply copying a newspaper article. Othewise I have better things to do.
I took a stab at explaining what we were aiming for in a post last week, but today comes a much better response to Mr. Brandt’s question from Kevin Coughlin, the veteran Star-Ledger staff writer who blogs as George! at the site and has done much of the recruiting of local contributors.
Among other things, Kevin writes:
In a nutshell, we’re aiming for an online version of the venerable Morristown Green: Where people from Morristown, Morris Township and Morris Plains can come together and talk about anything and everything that matters to them.
And this:
Ron notes how bloggers are promoting agendas here. That’s blogging! Merchants are an important voice in this community.
They are not the only voice, however. Going forward, you will hear from Greater Morristown’s thriving professional community, and from its religious groups and charities. Elected officials and watchful constituents, movers and shakers, villains and unsung heroes — the soapbox is yours.
We’ll have some fun. We’ll make some mistakes. Tell us what you you like, and what you don’t. Share your tips, your pix, your videos.
Better yet, follow Ron’s lead and blog for MorristownGreen.com.
All are welcome here.
Well said, I think.
