The New Jersey twitterverse: An experiment

I spent part of the afternoon adding friends at Twitter for NJ_Giants — which delivers a feed of all our Giants headlines from NJ.com. It took a while, but NJ_Giants is now following all 622 people at Twitter who have ‘New Jersey’ in their profiles. The idea was simple: I wanted as many people as possible to know about our terrific coverage of the Giants in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.

Then I got to thinking…

Why wouldn’t I want to follow all those people, too? What better way to keep tabs on what New Jerseyans — or at least the subset of New Jerseyans who are plugged into Twitter — are thinking about? And if some number of those people decide to follow me, too, maybe there’s even a chance to create an ad hoc reader advisory network. I can’t think of a group of people more likely to have good ideas about what The Star-Ledger should be doing online.

So I just added all 622 of those folks, and already I’m hearing about the dating scene in Jersey City, dinners out down the Shore and local reaction to Obama’s big win in South Carolina.  I’m looking forward to keeping up with this crowd, and finding ways to tap into their collective wisdom. For starters, since this post will get delivered to my Twitter account, I’ll ask: What’s the biggest story in New Jersey — or in your town — that isn’t being covered?
