New Jersey Twitter Network at NJ.com
Thanks to our friends at NJ.com, New Jersey now has a place to go to see what Garden State twitterers are talking about. The page is modeled on the one built by our sister site MLive.com. (You can read more about the genesis of the Michigan experiment at New Media Bytes, where Shawn Smith also offers a great roundup of Twitter resources.)
The center of the new NJ.com page has a dandy little Flash element that pulls the latest tweets (twitter messages, which are limited to 140 characters) from people who have identified themselves as New Jerseyans and who have chosen to make their tweets public. It provides a nice real-time X-ray of what’s going on in people’s lives across the state.
In the left rail, there’s a list of the twitterfeeds from The Star-Ledger and NJ.com. (I’m not there, but you can follow me at @johnhassell). Among other things, this gives users an opportunity to receive news, business and sports headlines as they’re posted, via the web or text message.
As Twitter moves increasingly into the mainstream, this is a nice first to create connections between the New Jersey Twitterverse and the communities of interest that exist within and around NJ.com. It also creates interesting opportunities to collaborate with local twitterers in the collection of news and information.
Anybody have a cool idea for twitter network project?
