Lights, check. Cameras, check. Ready for action.

Interesting post today from Michael Rosenblum about the opportunity newspapers have to compete with local television.

Here is where newspapers can step in and take the video world away from TV news. They have the stories already, they have the reporting staff, they have the brand.  All they lack is the means of production. And in a world of HDV cameras that cost $800 and FCP software that costs that or less, the means or production is at their fingertips.

This is exactly why we’ve partnered with Rosenblum Associates, and why we’re spending the next couple of weeks getting prepared for an intense boot camp for newsroom staffers. A pile of those lovely little HDV cameras just arrived, and it’s exciting to think about what they’re going to produce in the hands of Star-Ledger journalists.

It won’t be Eyewitness News or Live at 5. But with some hard work and creativity, it might just be pretty interesting.
