Taking another look at Seesmic

Thanks to Paul Bradshaw, I spent a little time this morning reacquainting myself with Seesmic, the brilliantly simple video conversation platform. Here’s how simple: You register, find someone you’re interested in, watch something they’ve posted and then reply with a short video of your own.

It has the immediacy of Twitter, but it makes everything more personal. And it can be linked easily to your Twitter account so your videos are automatically delivered as tweets, with links. As Paul points out, your tweets even pick up the @s if you are replying to someone on Seesmic.

Just to get a sense of this, here’s the video Paul recorded as he was working on his blog post:

And here’s my reply to him:

As I say in the video, I think this could be an amazing tool for columnists (and opinion writers in general) who want to build a personal connection with readers. Because Seesmic offers an easy plugin for Wordpress users, many bloggers are already giving users an opportunity to leave video comments on blog posts. (I plan to add them soon.)

How else can newsrooms use Seesmic? Please share your thoughts in the comments, or reply with a video on Seesmic, where you can follow me at johnhassell.
