Can newspaper journalists be taught to shoot quality video?
You be the judge.
I made this video about a mixed martial arts club in New Jersey in eight hours from first shot to final edit, after just two days of a video boot camp run by Rosenblum Associates in our newsroom.
I’ll write more about the boot camp in the next couple of days, but for now I’ll just say that we took 20 people — most of whom had never shot or edited video before — and that my little video is a poor example of the quality of stuff the group is already producing.
Lesson: Give print journalists the tools to tell stories in new ways, and it’s amazing what they can do.
